Sliding materials with integrated lubrication systems
Sliding materials are used in any applications that require sliding, rolling or wearing components. And where the components need to function reliably – including without additional lubrication. Materials like these are used for bearing bushes, guides, sliding bars and other wear-critical components.

These are plastics developed specifically for applications that involve motion, friction and wear. Compared with standard plastics, they have excellent wear and friction – or tribological – properties.
faigle's sliding materials feature integrated dry lubricants inside the material itself. Which removes the need for external lubrication, reduces maintenance and cuts the risk of breakdowns when lubricants run dry.
- Low coefficient of friction from µ = 0.07 (measured against hardened steel, dry, v = 0.27m/s)
- Excellent dry-running properties – no external lubricants required
- High wear resistance and compressive strength of up to 35N/mm²
- Permanent application temperatures from -50°C to 250°C, and up to 310°C for short periods
- Good machinability in semi-finished product form
- Available as semi-finished products (round rods, hollow rods, sheets) and as finished parts
Plastic sliding materials are commonly used as replacements for metal components. They are also a way to reduce weight, integrate low-cost, exchangeable wear parts, and minimise maintenance.

Our PAS-LX, PAS-LXY and PAS-80X sliding materials achieve friction coefficients from approximately 0.15 to 0.25 – significantly lower than the base values of comparable, lower-cost plastics.
The friction coefficient can be further reduced due to running-in or marginal lubrication.
This results in reduced wear, less warming and a significantly extended service life – including in dry-running applications and continuous operations.

Granulate
Sliding materials also available as granulate
faigle's PAS-LX, PAS-LXY and PAS-80X sliding materials are available as semi-finished products and processed components, as well as in granulate (compound) form.
Developed and processed by faigle, our granulates are proprietary material mixtures with optimised wear and friction performance. The materials are aimed at customers who carry out plastics processing in-house, as well as production partners who want to integrate our optimised materials directly into their injection moulding or extrusion processes.

Semi-finished products can be processed directly – no special tools required
PROCESSING INFORMATION
All faigle PAS sliding materials can be supplied as semi-finished products. They can be processed using conventional metal and wood processing machinery without any problems. HSS tools are suitable for processing non-reinforced types, while for longer tool life, we recommend hard metal tools.
faigle provides a range of processing services:
- High-precision cutting
- Centreless grinding of rods, tubes and hollow rods
- Sheet planing
- Grooving of cut sheets
- Turning, milling, drilling
- Thermal pre- and post-treatment
Design information: as plastics are poor heat conductors, sufficient heat removal is essential. For moisture-absorbing (hygroscopic) materials such as PAS-80X (PA 6.6-based), larger processing tolerances should be planned in.

Sliding materials
Sliding materials – FAQs
Which plastic is suitable for dry running?
PAS-LX, PAS-LXY and PAS-80X have all been specially developed for dry-running operations. The integrated dry lubricant ensures permanently low friction coefficients without the need for external lubrication. With a µ of 0.15, PAS-LXY has the lowest friction coefficient and is the number-one choice for extreme sliding applications.
What's the difference between PAS-LX and PAS-LXY?
PAS-LXY is the next generation of our PAS-LX material – with even better sliding and wear properties for extreme applications.
Both are based on copolymer polyoxymethylene (POM-C) with dry lubricant. PAS-LXY has been developed to include optimised wear and friction properties (tribosystem): the coefficient of friction is µ = 0.15 (compared with 0.20 for PAS-LX), and its wear resistance has also been further enhanced. PAS-LX also has outstanding impact strength (30 vs. 18kJ/m2) and has the necessary physiological properties for food applications.
Can I process your semi-finished products myself?
Yes, PAS semi-finished products can be processed using conventional metal and wood processing machines. With non-reinforced materials, HSS tools are fully sufficient for turning, milling, drilling and sawing. faigle also offers machining services directly at its factory.
Contact us to discuss your processing needs, or configure your products directly in our webshop
What is the maximum temperature that your materials can be used in?
PAS-LX and PAS-LXY can be used in permanent temperatures of up to 100°C, and up to 120°C for short periods.
PAS-80X can withstand permanent temperatures of up to 80°C, and up to 120°C for short periods.
The lowest application temperature for all three materials is -40°C.
Our range also includes materials that can withstand a far wider range of temperatures – contact us today to find the right solution for your application.
Are your sliding materials also available as granulate?
Yes, faigle's PAS-LX, PAS-LXY and PAS-80X sliding materials are available as semi-finished products and processed components, as well as in granulate (compound) form.
These proprietary material mixtures have been developed specifically for applications with demanding wear and friction requirements. We'd be happy to help you select the right material and take care of all your processing needs.
