Semi-finished products – FAQs

What are plastic semi-finished products?

As the name suggests, plastic semi-finished products are semi-processed items such as panels, round rods, hollow rods and tubes.

They serve as the initial material for mechanical processing further down the line – sawing, turning and milling, for example – to produce technical components for a host of different applications.

What's the difference between a round rod and a tube?

A round rod is a solid cylinder made from plastic. It is often the initial material for producing turned parts, bushes, plain bearings and precision components.

In contrast, tubes (or hollow rods) have an interior bore that runs the entire length of the tube. They're ideal for components where cutting material use, reducing weight or making use of the inner contours are important – for example, wheel and roller hubs, as well as bushes and lightweight component designs.

We supply round rods and tubes in numerous diameters and lengths.

Can you supply transparent semi-finished products?

Yes, faigle also offers transparent, see-through and crystal-clear plastic semi-finished products. They are mainly used for vision panels, protective coverings, machine guards and optical applications.

The most common types of transparent materials are:

  • PMMA (acrylic glass) – very high transparency and good weatherability
  • PC (polycarbonate) – outstanding impact-resistance and transparency
  • PET-G – transparent and easily thermoformable

These transparent plastic semi-finished products combine optical clarity with excellent mechanical properties.

What is faigle's 1st Cut Service?

This is the name of our customer-specific pre-machining service for plastic semi-finished products – it covers everything from custom-cutting, sawing and milling to thermal treatment.

 Link to the cutter service

Does faigle offer thermoset plastics and elastomers as well?

No – faigle specialises in semi-finished products made from thermoplastics. Our range doesn't include any thermoset plastics or elastomers.

All our materials – including PE, PP, PVC, PA, POM, PET, PTFE and PEEK, as well as our sliding materials – are thermoplastics.

Which geometries and standard dimensions can faigle supply?

faigle provides plastic semi-finished products in a range of different geometries:

  • Panels
  • Flat rods
  • Round rods
  • Hollow rods
  • Tubes

Depending on the material, all geometries are available in various dimensions, each with different wall thicknesses. We can also supply numerous standard dimensions, depending on the material. For example, panels usually come in the following sizes:

  • 620 × 2000 mm
  • 620 × 3000 mm
  • 1000 × 2000 mm
  • 1250 × 2500 mm

In total, faigle offers items in over 1,200 dimensions made from more than 100 different materials. Many of them are available directly from stock.

And with our custom-cut service, we can cut or pre-machine semi-finished products in line with specific customer requirements.

Which plastic semi-finished products are suitable for food industry applications?

Applications that involve contact with foodstuffs use food-grade plastics that meet the applicable statutory requirements, such as EU Directive 10/2011 or the FDA guidelines.

Suitable materials include:

  • PE (polyethylene)
  • PP (polypropylene)
  • POM (polyoxymethylene)
  • PET (polyethylene terephthalate)

Depending on the material and batch, we can also provide the relevant declarations of compliance.
