Wheel holder applications

Wheel holders are used in carriages for parcel sortation and baggage handling systems – due to the kinematic effects generated by cornering, the carriage wheels also need to be able to swivel. Conventional wheel holders are made from steel or aluminium, but faigle’s lightweight plastic Swivel wheel comfort takes a different tack. Wheel holders are designed to bear the weight of the carriage and the items it carries, and to withstand shocks and centrifugal forces when the carriage takes corners.

 

Even when the wheel holders are exposed to significant loads, it’s vital that deformation is kept to an absolute minimum to stop the carrier from sinking. The pivot bearing needs to be play-free and silent, as well as extremely reliable during many years of operation. Acoustic decoupling of the wheel and the carrier is another key requirement, as this minimises the transfer of vibrations and noise. All this underlines the need for wheel holders to be robust and hard-wearing, as well as quiet and long-lasting to ensure smooth sortation system operations. A groundbreaking solution, the Swivel wheel comfort is made entirely from plastics – this makes it significantly lighter than its steel and aluminium counterparts, as well as delivering outstanding performance. Thanks to its high-strength design featuring highly rigid and impact-resistant carbon-fibre-reinforced polyamide, the holder’s wheel fork is ideally suited to carrying heavy loads.

 

The plastic wheel shaft on faigle’s new wheel holder is so stable that it actually exceeds the load-bearing capacity of the ball bearing by some distance. The shaft is fitted in damping bushings. Securely fixed in the wheel fork using a clip system, it can be assembled without any tools. Made from a type of plastic specially developed by faigle, with optimised tribological properties, the plain bearing that allows the wheels to swivel in the required direction does not require any lubrication throughout the wheel holder’s entire service life.

What are the advantages of faigle wheel holders?

The kinematic effects of cornering in parcel sortation and baggage handling systems call for wheel holders that are able to swivel. Installing faigle wheel holders couldn’t be easier – or quicker. We supply a ready-to-install module with the running wheel already fitted, which simplifies the entire process considerably. Robust and lightweight, the plastic wheel shaft can be fixed in the fork by means of a clip system, without the need for any tools – which makes assembly even faster. Our quick-change system means the wheels can be replaced in next to no time – a major advantage in applications with changing requirements, and when carrying out maintenance work.
 

The high-strength design of the wheel fork on faigle’s Swivel wheel comfort – which features highly rigid, impact-resistant, carbon-fibre-reinforced polyamide – is ideally suited to handling heavy loads, and helps to reduce assembly times as well. Is the running wheel included?
